Hurricane Gonzalo, half-term and halloween

What a lovely weekend but now gales are expected on Tuesday, the tail end of Hurricane Gonzalo, so baton down the hatches!
The nights are drawing in and we change the clocks at the weekend so it will feel like we're rapidly moving towards winter.
Keep buying your root vegetables and serve them in hearty casseroles, soups and stews, they're pure comfort food. But despite their stodgy reputation, they are not the threat to the waistline that we might think. Most root vegetables have a very low calorie count, as well as a slew of vitamins and nutrients to help keep us healthy.
Next week is half-term with Halloween on the Friday. We have a range of sizes of organic pumpkins in the shop. A fun half-term activity is scooping out the pumpkin flesh and making a lantern. With the flesh you can make an american favourite - pumpkin pie. We also have a recipe in the shop which we can email you.
We'd love to see photos of your pumpkin lanterns - please email them to us. We could put them up on our facebook page!
For full details of what's in the shop see our latest organic fruit and vegetable price guide.
We will also have fresh organic north yorkshire lamb.
Have a good week!

A month of birthdays!

In my extended family we have 7 October birthdays and most of them were this weekend! I'm exhausted writing all the cards!
Yesterday my sons moved into their accommodation in Hull and university lectures start today! Luckily we had lovely weather for the move. Now it is wet and cold and time to think about casseroles.
My sister down in London is celebrating her birthday today and is cooking Boeuf Bourguignon followed by Lemon Meringue Pie. She wishes that she had a lovely organic farm shop nearby from which to buy the ingredients!
This week we have more local organic root vegetables - great roasted or mashed and served as an accompaniment to casserole.
For full details of what's in the shop see our latest organic fruit and vegetable price guide.
We will also have fresh organic beef braising steak and mince, and ham, bacon and gammon.
Have a good week!
