Sport themed recipes and ideas

We're having some lovely weather and together with the light evenings it's delightful. We are starting to have more and more local organic fruit and vegetables in the shop. This week we have local Batavia lettuces, local Accent new potatoes, local spinach and chard and local raspberries.
We're in to the second week of Wimbledon, the World Cup has reached the quarter finals (I think?) and everyone's getting very excited about the Yorkshire leg of the Tour de France at the weekend. So here are some themed recipes/ideas for the week:
France: A French ratatouille - this is normally cooked in September when there's a glut of these lovely mediterranean vegetables but why wait!
Yorkshire: Rain-or-shine leg of lamb, using local north yorkshire lamb. This can be barbecued or roasted. If you get your order in quickly we can have the leg of lamb butterflied for you, otherwise here are the instructions.
Brazil: Create a Brazilian fruit flag! All the recipes use ingredients from the shop.
For a full list of what's in the shop this week see our latest organic fruit and vegetable price guide.
We will also have fresh organic north yorkshire lamb.
Have a good week!

Football, tennis, cycling and folk music!

We're now entering a very busy period for the sports fans amongst us! The football world cup in Brazil, a test match this weekend at Leed's Headingley cricket ground, Wimbledon lawn tennis starting next Monday and last but not least the Tour de France's Yorkshire stretch for stages 1 & 2 at the beginning of July! Even though the Tour de France won't be coming very close to Pickering we should be getting in the mood by thinking about French and Yorkshire seasonal products and recipes! If you have any recipes please let us know and we'll put them on the 30th June blog. For details of what's in the shop this week see our latest organic fruit and vegetable price guide.
We will also have organic fresh and smoked salmon fillet.
A last snippet of information for the folk music fans amongst us - Eliza Carthy has just been awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours.
Eliza is a local lass originally from Whitby and attended Scarborough 6th form college. She is the daughter of Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson. If you wish to catch her performing locally she and Martin are performing at the Beverley Folk festival this weekend. Have a good week!

Flaming June

Well all back to normal after a busy half-term week - a pity the weather wasn't so good!
I managed to visit the Wizard of Oz flower festival at St Peter's and St Paul's church - wasn't it lovely!
We have quite a few new things in the shop this week. Katharine, our resident baker, has been making gluten free and dairy free quiches. She is also baking rhubarb pies which are flying off the shelf!
We have lovely UK organic lettuces, spinach and rhubarb and from the continent juicy cherries, peaches and nectarines - see our latest organic fruit and vegetable price guide for details.
We will also have fresh organic salmon fillets, whole chickens and chicken chicken burgers and beef mince.
Have a good week!
