British organic asparagus

The weather wasn't too bad for a bank holiday weekend. We are at least seeing some sunshine after all that rain!
We are so pleased to be able to have some organic british asparagus in the shop later this week. The UK asparagus season is very short and has been delayed by this bad weather. Here's a link to some interesting asparagus recipes, mind you we love it steamed and eaten with dash of olive oil.
We also have UK rhubarb - my sister made me a delicious rhubarb fool dessert when I was down in London recently.

Shakespeare's birthday!

Happy Birthday Shakespeare - 448 years old today!
Friends, Romans, countrymen lend me your ears - our latest fruit and vegetable priceguide is on our webpages! This week we have golden globe beetroot - beetroot is a true super food! It's so underrated as a vegetable, but goes with just about anything! Can be eaten raw in salads, boiled, roasted, juiced and pickled. We also have organic asparagus - steam it and then serve drizzled with olive oil.

post Easter

We hope you had a lovely Easter weekend despite the weather! No sooner is a drought officially declared and it starts to rain!
The holiday is over and now the sun is shining but it's still cold! Why not try this lovely warming Celeriac and pear soup. We have all the ingredients in the shop except the shallots but you can use chopped onions instead.
This week we will have a delivery of speciality organic breads including sourdough rye loaves and spelt and white flour wraps. We also have locally made bread and rolls which will go well with the soup.
We still have a few discounted frozen cuts of north yorkshire organic lamb. Next week we will have fresh organic pork, sausages, bacon, gammon and ham.

Run up to Easter

These last few days have been lovely and sunny but very cold at night - I had to scrape ice off my van this morning! We are also being treated to wonderful night skies with fantastic views of Venus, Jupiter and a new moon! With the change of clocks and the beginning of Spring, the gardeners amongst you are starting to think about potting composts etc. We have a list of West Riding Organic composts on our fruit and vegetable price guide - please let us have your orders and then we can deliver with your fruit and vegetables.
This week we have fresh organic north yorkshire lamb in the shop and next week organic salmon - please see our updated fresh meat timetable.
It's Easter in 2 weeks and we have all the ingredients for making organic simnel cakes. We also have a lovely range of Easter eggs see our facebook page for pictures.
The shop will be closed on Easter Sunday and Monday (8 & 9 April) but open over the rest of the Easter weekend.

Mother's Day, David Hockney etc

It's Mother's Day on Sunday and we have a range of organic products that would make nice presents - organic chocolates and biscuits, lavender bath oils, soaps and creams, or order an organic fruit basket.
We have some lovely aubergines in the shop so if you are cooking a special meal on Sunday why not go for a middle eastern theme and a tasty starter is aubergine dip known as Baba Ganoush in Egypt or Moutabal in Lebanon. Serve with crudités or pitta bread. Here's another recipe that uses tahini instead of yoghurt.
Mother's Day makes me think of David Hockney's painting of his mother. My London based sister has just been to see the wonderful David Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy (on until 9 April) and said that it made her very homesick for North Yorkshire and the Wolds!
